Ross Perot 1992 and 1996 Presidential Candidate Dies
July 9 , 2019 - Ross Perot the billionaire businessmen who mounted two presidential campaigns in the 1990's has died. In 1992 as an independent candidate Perot ran for president and scored 18.9% of the popular vote. Perot appeared in that year's presidential debates along side future President Bill Clinton and then President George H.W. Bush. His 1992 vice presidential running mate was James Stockdale.
In 1996 , Perot created the Reform Party. In the 1996 November general election Perot received 8% of the vote. For his 1996 running mate Perot selected Pat Choate. Following 1996 , Perot would not again run for office but in 2000 endorsed George W. Bush for president. In 2008 and 2012 , Perot supported Mitt Romney.
Biden Still Leads in Iowa as Harris Surges
July 2, 2019 - What a difference a week makes! With last weeks Democratic presidential debates now in the rear view mirror , their impact is being felt in the latest polling out of Iowa.
Former Vice President Joe Biden who has led pretty much every Iowa poll since entering the race in April finds himself still out front with 24%. Senator Kamala Harris of California off a strong debate performance has rocketed into second place with 16%. In third place with 13% after her well received debate performance is Senator Elizabeth Harris of Massachusetts.
In suspiring fourth place with 9% is Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Since the start of 2019 , Sanders has generally been in the mid to high teens in Iowa. So a showing at 9% is a new development for Sanders. He is also no stranger to Iowa voters as Sanders scored 49.6% of the vote in the 2016 Iowa caucuses compared with 49.8% for Hillary Clinton.
In fifth place is South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg with 6%. The only other candidates reaching more than 1% are Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey and Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota both at 2%.
Coming in a 1% each are former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke , Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard , former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, Entrepreneur Andrew Yang and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
The next round of Democratic presidential debates will occur on July 30 and July 31 in Detroit Michigan.
Biden Begins Bid with Big Bounce
April 29 , 2019 - What a difference a week makes. With his long anticipated entry into the 2020 presidential race , former Vice President Joe Biden has vaulted to an undisputed lead in a new poll. As the saying goes the third time is the charm , as Biden finds himself in a just released national poll with support of 39% of those polled. Scoring 39% is quite impressive considering there are some 20 Democratic candidates who have announced a presidential run. In second place is Biden's closest competitor Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont with 16%. Of the crop of 2020 candidates only Biden and Sanders are in double digits.
Coming in third place is Senator Elizabeth Warren at 6%. Polling at 5% each are Senator Kamala Harris of California , South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke. After this group the only candidates grabbing more than 1% is Senator Cory Booker at 3% and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii at 2%.
Locking down 1% of support each are , Senator Amy Klobuchar , former HUD Secretary Julian Castro , Senator Kristen Gillibrand of New York , former Governor of Colorado John Hickenlooper , Andrew Yang and Washington State Governor John Inslee.

April 25, 2019 - Ending months of speculation , former Vice President Joe Biden made if official today when he announced that he would be a candidate for president in 2020. This marks Biden's 3rd try at the White House as he also ran in 1988 and 2008.
Biden enters the race leading in most national polls. He has a long history in politics as Biden was elected a U.S. Senator from Delaware in 1972. He served as a Senator for some 36 years when in 2008 Barack Obama picked him to be his vice presidential running mate. The Obama Biden ticket went onto victory that November , and Biden served as vice president from 2009 to 2017.
Biden entry into the race joins an already crowded field of some 20 candidates vying for the 2020 Democratic Party nomination. In addition to being the front runner in the Democratic field , a recent poll also has Biden leading incumbent President Donald Trump. Biden had 42% to 34% for Trump.
Bernie Leads , Buttigieg is Surging , Biden is Second in Latest New Hampshire Poll
April 23 ,2019 - The latest Democratic Presidential Poll from New Hampshire has Senator Bernie leading followed by former Vice President Joe Biden in second and South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg coming in at strong third place.
Sanders , who won the 2016 New Hampshire Presidential Primary with 60% of the vote to 37% for Hillary Clinton , has the support of 30% of those polled. Biden , who is rumored to officially announce a presidential candidacy this week is in second place with 18%.
Buttigieg , who is experiencing a wave of positive publicity and large crowds at this campaign appearances , finds himself at 15%. Sanders , Biden and Buttigieg are the only candidates to find themselves in double digits in the polling.
