Calvin Coolidge was sworn in as the 30th President of the United States on August 2, 1923 following the death of President Warren Harding. In 1924 Coolidge was elected in his own right, and decided not to run for re-election in 1928. Coolidge presided over the rapidly expanding economy of the 1920's and is remembered as being a small government conservative. Coolidge won his first race for political office when he was elected to the Northampton , Massachusetts City Council in 1898. He would go on to win several other political offices in Massachusetts including Governor in 1918. Coolidge's 1924 presidential campaign slogan was "Keep Cool And Keep Coolidge."
