Inslee and Hickenlooper Join White House Contest

John Hickenlooper campaign button.John Inslee Campaign ButtonMarch 4, 2019 - Two western Governor's have now entered the crowded Democratic field for the 2020 race for the presidency. Governor Jay Inslee of Washington made it official when he announced that he would run a race focusing on climate change. Inslee was followed by former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper who announced his presidential bid today.

Inslee a 2 term governor , won his first political office when he was elected to the Washington House of Representative in 1988. In 1992 he would move on to the U.S House of Representatives when he was elected to serve as Washington's 4th district Congressman. In 2012 Inslee was elected the 23rd Governor of Washington State.

Over in Colorado , Hickenlooper began his political career in 2003 when he was elected the Mayor of Denver. After being reelected Mayor  in 2007 , Hickenlooper would go on to run for and win the  Governorship of Colorado in 2010.

Bernie Leads in Latest New Hampshire Poll

February 25, 2019 - With about a year to go to the New Hampshire Presidential Primary , Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is currently leading the Democratic field. Sanders has the support of 27% followed by former Vice President Joe Biden at 25%.

In 3rd place at 12% is Senator Kamala Harris of California. All of the remaining candidates are in single digits beginning with Senator Elizabeth Warren at 9% and Senator Amy Klobuchar at 8%. Next tied at 5% each is Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is at 2% and tied at 1% each is Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and former Maryland Congressman Joe Delaney.

Bernie 2020 It's Official

Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign button.February 19, 2019 - Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont announced today that he will be candidate for president in 2020. This makes the second presidential race for Sanders as he ran and came in second to Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Sanders began his political career when he was elected the Mayor of Burlington , Vermont in 1980. He would serve 4 two year terms as Mayor. In 1990 Sanders was elected to the United States Congress where he would serve for 16 years.

Upon the retirement of Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords in 2005, Sanders ran in the 2006 election and won. Since 2006 , Sanders has been re-elected in 2012 and 2018. 

 

Booker Begins White House Bid

Cory Booker campaign buttonsFebruary 1, 2019 - United States Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey announced today that he will be a candidate for president in 2020. Booker's entry into the race had long been  speculated to occur.Cory Booker for president campaign button

In 1998 at the age of 29 , Booker won his first political office when he was elected to the Newark , New Jersey City Council. During his term on the Newark City Council , Booker went on a 10 day hunger strike and set up a tent in front of a city housing project to protest open air drug dealing.

In 2002 , Booker challenged four term incumbent Newark Mayor Sharpe James for the mayoralty. The 2002 election was bruising contest and saw Booker loose the race earning 47% of the vote to 53% for James. Now out of elected office Booker would practice law and serve on university boards.

Newark Mayor James did not run again in 2006 , where upon Booker would cruise to election as the Mayor of Newark with 72% of the vote. Upon being sworn in as Mayor of Newark , New Jersey's largest city, Booker launched at 100 day plan to reform the city.

Upon the death of U.S Senator Frank Lautenberg in 2013 , a special election was called to fill the remainder of the late senator's term. Booker won the primary on August 13 , 2013 with 59% of the vote. On October 16 , 2013 Booker defeated his republican challenger Steve Lonegan by a margin of 54% to 44%. Booker was then sworn into the U.S. Senate on October 31, 2013.

Because there was only about 14 months left in the unexpired term of Senator Lautenberg, that required Booker running for re-election immediately in 2014. Booker would go on to victory in November defeating his republican rival Jeffrey Bell by a margin of 55.8% to 42.4%.

In announcing his presidential candidacy Booker said " I believe that we can build a country where no one is forgotten, no one is left behind; where parents can put food on the table; where there are good paying jobs with good benefits in every neighborhood; where our criminal justice system keeps us safe , instead of shuffling more children into cages and coffins; where we see the faces of our leaders on television and feel pride, not shame."

 

Kamala Harris Enters 2020 Race For The White House

Kamala Harris campaign buttonJanuary 23, 2019 - On the national holiday celebrating the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., U.S. Senator Kamala Harris of California announced that she is running for president. Harris begins  the race often polling in the top 5 of likey 2020 Democratic contenders.

Harris started her political career when in 2003 she was elected District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. She was re-elected in 2007 when she ran unopposed. In 2009 Harris released  her book Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor's Plan to Make Us Safer. 

In 2010 , Harris was elected Attorney General for the State of California. Harris was re-elected California Attorney General in 2014. During the presidency of Barack Obama , Harris was sometimes mentioned as a possible United States Supreme Court Justice or U.S Attorney General. 

Harris won her next election when in November of 2016 she was elected to the United States Senate. Within 24 hours of her presidential announcement , her campaign raised over 1.5 million dollars.
