Inslee and Hickenlooper Join White House Contest
March 4, 2019 - Two western Governor's have now entered the crowded Democratic field for the 2020 race for the presidency. Governor Jay Inslee of Washington made it official when he announced that he would run a race focusing on climate change. Inslee was followed by former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper who announced his presidential bid today.
Inslee a 2 term governor , won his first political office when he was elected to the Washington House of Representative in 1988. In 1992 he would move on to the U.S House of Representatives when he was elected to serve as Washington's 4th district Congressman. In 2012 Inslee was elected the 23rd Governor of Washington State.
Over in Colorado , Hickenlooper began his political career in 2003 when he was elected the Mayor of Denver. After being reelected Mayor in 2007 , Hickenlooper would go on to run for and win the Governorship of Colorado in 2010.
