William Jennings Bryan , a Democrat from Nebraska,  has the distinction of winning the Democratic nomination for president three times, 1896, 1900 and 1908. Bryan was a talented and prolific orator giving over 500 speeches in 1896 alone. After losing all three elections, Bryan went on to serve as Secretary of State under President Woodrow Wilson from 1913 – 1915.
