Gilmore Becomes 17th Republican To Enter Presidential Race
July 31, 2015 - The sprawling Republican presidential field grew to a total of 17 yesterday when former Virginia Governor James Gilmore entered the race.
Gilmore , 65, served as Governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002. He won his first statewide race when he was elected the Attorney General of Virginia in 1993. This will be Gilmore's second run for president as be previously made a brief run in 2007 before dropping out before the primary season actually began.
In 2008 Gilmore lost a U.S. Senate race to Mark Warner.
