Bernie Shocks Hillary in Michigan , But She Dominates in Mississippi
March 9, 2016 - Despite polls predicting that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would win the Michigan Primary , 
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont scored an upset victory.
With 97% of the vote having been reported , Sanders vaulted to victory with 49.8% of the vote to 48.2% of the vote for Clinton. Due to the close vote the delegates awarded to each candidate was almost a draw. Sanders will walk away with 65 delegates to 58 for Clinton.
There was still in a sliver lining in the evening for Clinton though as she crushed Sanders in the Mississippi Primary.
With an estimated 95% of the vote recorded Clinton won a stunning 82.6% of the vote to just 16.5% of the vote for Sanders. This lopsided victory also accrued in the delegate count as Clinton will receive 29 delegates from Mississippi to just 4 for Sanders.
In the overall delegate count Clinton still holds a commanding lead over Sanders. Including delegates won and super delegates Clinton now has 1221 to 571 for Sanders. Another wards if delegates were campaign buttons , Hillary would have a lot of them.
Sanders win in Michigan may give him new momentum heading into Tuesday March 15 when Ohio, Florida , North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri will all hold primaries. Currently polls have Clinton leading in Illinois, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio.
Trump & Clinton Have Super Duper Super Tueday!
March 2, 2016 - New York Businessman Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton each took a giant 
step toward securing their respective parties presidential nominations by both winning seven of the Super Tuesday voting states and hundreds of convention delegates.
On the Republican side , Trump scored victories in Vermont, Massachusetts , Virgina, Georgia, Alabama , Arkansas and Tennessee. It wasn't a complete sweep for Trump though as Senator Ted Cruz won his home state of Texas and also Oklahoma and Alaska. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida finally got up on the scoreboard notching his first win of the primary season by claiming victory in the Minnesota Republican Caucus.
With 15 states now having voted, Trump has won 315 delegates to 205 for Cruz and 106 for Rubio. There are actually two other Republicans in the race for the White House Ohio Governor John Kasich and 
Dr Ben Carson, and while they did not win any states they did collect some delegates.Kasich now has won 27 delegates followed by Carson with 7.
On the Democratic side , Clinton won the states of Massachusetts, George, Alabama, Virgina, Arkansas , Tennessee and Texas. Senator Bernie Sanders won his home state of Vermont and Oklahoma , Colorado and Minnesota.
When super delegates are included Clinton now has a commanding lead of 1062 
delegates followed by Sanders with 421.
The presidential primary calendar now moves on to Saturday March 5 where the Republicans will compete in Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Maine. The Democrats will compete in Kansas , Nebraska, Louisiana and Maine.
Trumps Tops Field In South Carolina - Hillary Nevada Firewall Stops the Bern
February 21, 2016 - It was another election victory yesterday for Republican New York Businessman Donald Trump as
he won the South Carolina Republican Primary with 32.5% of the vote. In a distance second place was Senator Marco Rubio of Florida who secured 22.%5 of the vote.
As vote totals poured in and it was clear that Trump had trounced the field , a battle for second place went on for some time as Rubio and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas were locked in a tight battle for the silver medal.
Cruz followed Rubio's 22.5% of the vote with 22.3% vote. The actual vote difference between Rubio and Cruz was just about 1,000 votes. Far behind Cruz and Rubio in fourth place was former Florida Governor Jeb Bush with 7.8%. After the vote totals had come in , Bush suspended his White House campaign.
In fifth place was Ohio Governor John Kasich with 7.6 of the vote. Rounding out the field was Dr. Ben Carson with 7.2%.
Trump's election victory was all the more sweeter in that he won 44 of the delegates available to zero delegates awarded to his competitors.
Also on Saturday , the Democrats held a caucus in Nevada. Long considered one of the keys to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quest to the nomination, she was able to best Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont 52.6% to 47.4%.
Next up on the calendar is the Republican Caucus set for Tuesday February 23 in Las Vegas and the South Carolina Democratic Primary set for Saturday February 27.
Bush Bows Out - Ends White House Bid
February 21, 2016 - The voters of South Carolina determined yesterday that there would not be a third Bush family member in the White House, when former Florida Governor Jeb Bush finished in a distant fourth place with 8% of the primary vote.
Bush the son of President George H.W. Bush and brother of President George W. Bush, entered the race last year as the clear front runner and with a $100 million plus war chest.
When New York Businessman Donald Trump entered the race, however Bush quickly lost his first place status and fell behind the race.
In a year of the outsider, a candidate like Bush who was firmly part of the establishment just could not catch on with voters.
Last night Bush suspended his campaign and said, "I'm proud of the campaign that we've run to unify our country. The people of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina have spoken , and I respect their decision."
Trump and Hillary Lead In Latest South Carolina Primary Polls
February 15, 2016 - New York Businessman Donald Trump has a big lead in the polls with under a week to go to the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina on Saturday February 20.
Trump has the support of 42% followed by Senator Ted Cruz in a distant second place with 20%. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida is in third place with 15%%.
Fresh off his second place showing in the New Hampshire primary, Ohio Governor John Kasich finds himself in fourth place with 9%. Tied at 6% each are former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Dr. Ben Carson.
On the Democratic side former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finds herself in the lead with 59% of the vote followed by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont with 40%. The Democrats will hold their primary one week after the Republicans on Saturday February 27.
