Biden Wins Presidency , Harris Becomes First Woman Vice President
November 8 , 2020 - Late in the morning of November 7th and four days after election day , Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes were finally called for Joe Biden which pushed him past the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. In cities across America , people went into the street's to celebrate Biden's victory.
As the election of any president is an historic event , Kamala Harris became the first woman elected vice president in the 244 year history of the United States. Harris also became the first Black and South Asian vice president elect.
Later that night both President - elect Biden and Vice President - elect Harris addressed the nation from Wilmington , Delaware.
Speaking first , Harris said "While I may be the first woman in this office , I will not be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities."
Following up Harris's speech , Biden in reaching out to supporters and non - supporters alike said "I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify , who doesn't see red states and blue states , only sees the United States.
