February 7 , 2023 - The race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is starting to heat up and a new poll just released shows former President  Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a close race.

Trump scores 37% of those polled followed closely by DeSantis with 33%. After Trump and DeSantis no GOP presidential hopeful is in double digits.

The poll recorded in third placed former Vice President Mike Pence with 7%. After Pence , former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is at 5%. Haley is expected to  be the second candidate in the Republican race for the nomination when she announces for president on February 15.

Following Haley , Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina is at 2% , with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin at 1% each.
