December 11 , 2022 - With the midterm elections now over , a new poll on the state of the race for the 2024 Republican nomination for president shows Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leading former President Donald Trump. DeSantis fresh off a landslide re-election victory has the support of 47 percent of those polled to 42% for Trump.

This poll is a big change from mid-October that showed Trump then leading DeSantis by 45% to 36% , a nine point lead for Trump. While DeSantis has yet to announce if he will run for president in 2024 , Trump made it official one week after the midterms on November 15 that he was running to regain the White House. Prior to being governor , DeSantis served as a U.S. Congressman from 2013 to 2018.
